Many trips to the Mid North of South Australia and the River Murray have inspired this new collection of paintings that I am calling my “GOLDEN SUMMERS” collection. The very first large exhibition my mum took me to, as a young aspiring Artist was the Golden Summers Exhibition in 1985 at the NGV. A huge exhibition featuring the work of the Heidelberg Artists who had an everlasting impact on the way I saw the landscape and how I wanted to represent light in my paintings. I knew then at a very young age that I wanted to paint and I related to how the Australian Impressionists used colour. This collection of paintings represents the light and atmosphere in the landscape at certain times of day. The creamy carpet like hills have a sense of warmth that I find comforting. Pinks and Purples that appear in the distance as the sun is setting and the warm golden glow on the trees evokes a sense of time and place in these paintings. My paintings are a reflection of all of my experiences in that landscape; aiming to capture that same stillness and peace I felt when I was there.
